Sean Hagan has a knack for making complex things easier, especially when walking clients through weighty decisions about their family finances. His unique combination of technical precision and genuine empathy has made Sean a trusted advisor for hundreds of Massachusetts families and business owners.
Sean’s top priority is helping people proactively protect what they’ve built. He advises clients on estate and tax planning, trusts, and estate administration, carefully helping each client build a plan that meets their unique needs and goals.
Laid-back but not slow-moving, Sean excels at making people feel comfortable while ushering them through the estate planning process with maximum efficiency. Ask any client, and they’ll tell you he’s incredibly good at meeting people where they’re at. Whatever your comfort level with the intricacies of estate planning, Sean will make sure you understand your options at every step of the journey.
A South Shore native, Sean’s law career began shortly after graduating with a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Vermont. He worked for Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in New York as a legal assistant in the litigation department, and later as a pro bono administrative coordinator for the Skadden Fellowship Foundation. He then headed to law school, where he discovered an endearingly nerdish passion for tax law.
Sean earned his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School, and his LL.M. in Taxation from the Graduate Tax Program at Boston University School of Law. He spent the summer after his first year conducting legal research for the attorneys in the Massachusetts Senate Counsel’s Office and perfecting the art of grilling whatever he caught on his boat.
Whatever your comfort level with estate planning, Sean will make sure you understand your options at every step of the journey.
During law school, Sean was a member of the Suffolk Transnational Law Review and served as a law clerk at several estate planning and elder law firms, including Squillace & Associates, P.C., and Margolis & Bloom, LLP. Just before joining our firm, he was a senior editor at Parker Tax Publishing, a leading provider of federal research for tax practitioners. (See nerdish passion above.)
Above all, Sean is an attorney who cares—about his clients and his community—with a professional and personal philosophy that includes giving back. For a number of years, he taught a legal research and writing class to paralegal students at Bunker Hill Community College. Today, he serves as a Board Member for the In Control Family Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing injuries and fatalities among Massachusetts families.
Every year since 2018, Sean has been selected as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers, a distinction awarded to no more than 2.5 percent of attorneys in each state.
